Enwave Teams Up and Expands in Toronto

Enwave Chicago’s parent company, Enwave Energy Corporation (Enwave), has joined forces with Allied Properties REIT and RioCan REIT to extend Enwave’s existing Deep Lake Water Cooling and hot water distribution networks to The Well, a new mixed-use development in Toronto’s downtown west.

A new energy storage facility at The Well will be the anchor site, enabling westward expansion of the Toronto system to The Well community and neighboring areas. It is the first low-carbon, resilient cooling and heating option for downtown west.

The thermal energy storage facility will consist of two 6 million-liter tanks underneath The Well. The tanks will store temperature-controlled water fed by Enwave's existing Deep Lake Water Cooling system and a newly developed high-efficiency hot water network. It will expand the existing system's capacity with the ability to serve more than 20 million square feet of commercial, retail and residential space.

Enwave Chicago has been a part of  its parent company Brookfield Infrastructure and its institutional partners since August 2014. Enwave now owns and operates 12 district energy systems in the U.S. and Canada.
