Cooling at University of Chicago

The University of Chicago now features the architecture of the university's South Chiller Plant. Architect Helmut Jahn designed the building to reveal the plant's inner workings.

Completed in 2010, the plant generates chilled water – district cooling – for the south and east sides of campus. The award-winning plant is located next to its brick predecessor at Blackstone Avenue and 61st Street.

The design of Enwave Chicago’s P-1 district cooling plant at State and Adams received three awards: AIA Chicago Distinguised Building Award, Chicago Building Congress Award of Recognition, and National PCI Award for Excellence in Architecture and Engineering.
